Ralph Sommer

Ralph Sommer was baptized on July 1, 1956 and has been working on living that out ever since.  He has a BA in Psychology from Adelphi University, Garden City NY, and then attended the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception in Huntington NY after which he was ordained as a priest for the Diocese of Rockville Centre in 1983,  despite the best efforts of the then Vocation Director of the Paulist Fathers (Frank DeSiano).

Ralph served as Associate Pastor of Our Holy Redeemer Parish, Freeport NY;  then Associate Pastor of St Thomas More Parish,  Hauppauge NY;  then as Diocesan Director of RENEW 2000.  In 2001, he became pastor of St. Brigid’s parish in Westbury NY, a 7500 family multi-cultural parish that celebrated 11 Masses each Sunday in four languages.

Ralph is currently the pastor of St Bernard’s in Levittown, a 5000 family suburban parish.

In the past, Ralph has coordinated the diocesan committee on the New Evangelization and served on the diocesan RCIA commission and often is invited to speak in parishes and diocesan workshops on both of these aspects of the church’s mission.

He is adept in using various forms of media, but still prefers preaching and one-to-one evangelization as effective ways to bring people to Christ and the church.
