How Did ENVISION Start?

ENVISION began with a dream in 1999 to develop a long-term pastoral planning process rooted in the faith experience of parishioners. With this dream in mind, Paulist Evangelization Minisries (then PNCEA) conducted research that revealed a need for a parish planning process founded deeply on the evangelizing mission of the Church.

  • completed a survey of nearly 50 U.S. pastors who spoke of their pastoral planning needs and their hopes for sharing in the mission of evangelization.
  • called on the expertise of planners and pastors who helped develop an initial process called Parish Planning with an Evangelizing Perspective (PPEP).
  • enlisted the participation of three pilot parishes, beginning in the fall of 2000.
  • made modifications based on the experience of the pilot parishes.
